The Internet has made it very easy for job-seekers to manage their job search. You can follow (and be informed) of any new jobs by the companies you are interested in, or simply run through job portals never-ending list of job openings that are algorithmically matched to you.

But it is just so time-consuming to run through and monitor all these changes. What if you just want to know of the important stuffs as and when it happen?

By default you can’t.

But good news. You can do it with IFTTT

IFTTT is a web-based service in which users can create chains of simple conditional statements, called “recipes,” that are triggered based upon changes to other web services such as Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, and Craigslist. IFTTT is an abbreviation of “If This Then That” (pronounced like “gift” without the “g”).

Registration on IFTTT is easy. Just head over to their website to register. Once you are in, you can choose the recipes you want to connect your account with.

You would also want to download their phone add for iPhone and android.

IFTTT only provides a service; you would still have to register your own LinkedIN and other services that you wish to connect to.

Here are some IFTTT must-have recipes for job-seekers because time is too precious to spend hours scrolling through job sites:

First, how about setting up weekly reminders so you will remember to take action in your new job search.

Be the first to know of new opportunities at the companies you would love to join

Can’t wait for new job openings to apply for? This recipe creates a push notification whenever a new relevant job appears on your LinkedIN. There is also another version for iOS.

Not convenient to apply for new jobs at the time of release? Use this recipe to set a reminder when a new job is out

This is by far my favorite. Link up to job boards of your liking and be notified of any new jobs once they are listed. This recipe is using Indeed as an example. You can also get it from JobStreet and other job boards that supports RSS.

EXAMPLE

Run a search on JobStreet and you can see a Get Jobs by RSS on the right hand side. Click on that and you will be able to get the RSS feed on the next page.

There are a lot more recipes you can make use of to automate your job search as much as possible. Explore the full listing to see what works better for you.
